The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) has announced that they will Present a Lifetime Individual Performance Award to Lance Kull at their Region-18 Spring Conference on Friday, April 25, 2008 in Asheville, North Carolina.
Lance Kull becomes the first Information Technology Professional in North Carolina to earn the coveted Lifetime IPA Award. To earn this award requires decades of dedication to the Information Technology Profession.
Lance joined AITP when he was a programmer working for American Enka Company in Asheville, NC in 1975. Since then he has gone on to work for other companies in the Southeast including textile companies, software companies, and IT training and Consulting companies.
Lance Kull has earned his DTM and is a member of Northwestern Toastmasters (Club 2946) in Winston-Salem, NC. Encouraged by the dedication of other AITP members, Lance wanted "give back" to the people and the organization. At the local chapter level he has held every officer position including serving ten (10) times as Chapter President over his thirty three (33) years in AITP. He has mentored other professionals and computing students, as well as starting several IT Training Consortiums, and has had seven (7) professional papers published. He personally sponsored twenty one (21) new members, and helped struggling professional and student chapters and has served for years as a Boy Scout merit badge counselor for the Computing merit badge. He has served for twelve (12) years on various AITP chapter's boards of directors as well as ten (10) years on College Advisory Boards. He has organized training classes and seminars, developed and presented over one hundred thirty seven (137) seminars and speeches for AITP conferences, visited other chapters, and helped planned local, regional and national conferences.
His companies and peers have recognized some of his efforts, too. He was selected as "Boss of the Year" for large corporations by the Greensboro Jaycees in 1992 and named "Member of the Year" by the AITP Tarheel Chapter in 1995. The six states that make up Region 18 of AITP, named him "Regional Member of the Year" in 1998. Lance earned his MBA from the University of West Florida in 1976, and went on to earn his Certified Computing Professional certification (CCP) from the ICCP (Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals) in 1977.
